DVM Transfer Applications

FOR POSSIBLE ENTRANCE INTO THE FALL '13 SEMESTER, application material will only be accepted if RECEIVED from January 1st, 2013 to March 1st, 2013. Application material received before January 1st or after March 1st will NOT be accepted.

GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS CONSIDERING TRANSFER INTO DVM CURRICULUM:

The School of Veterinary Medicine will consider all transfer requests on a case-by-case basis subject to availability of space, the reason for requesting transfer, the quality of the applicant, and what the applicant would bring to the LSU program in terms of educational, cultural, ethnic, and geographical diversity. Transfer into the most appropriate semester of the curriculum will be considered based on how the curriculum of the school that the student is transferring from fits into our curricular template. This determination is only made once we have all application material submitted and begin the transfer application review process (in June). In general, qualified Louisiana residents will be given preference. Transfer opportunities vary from year to year but are typically VERY limited if available at all.

TRANSFER FROM AVMA-ACCREDITED CVMs:

Transfers will be considered on a case-by-case basis subject to availability of space and the reason for requesting transfer. Only students who are in good standing, have a GPA of 3.2 or better (or equivalent other grading scales), and are not on probation will be considered for transfer. Transfer into the most appropriate semester of the curriculum will be considered based on how the curriculum of the school that the student is transferring from fits into our curricular template. This determination is only made once we have all application material submitted and begin the transfer application review process (in June).

Required application documents:

(Please include your legal state of residence as well as your current contact information - current mailing address, current phone number, and valid email address. TRANSFER FROM NON-AVMA ACCREDITED CVMs:

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Transfers will only be accepted into the second or third years from AVMA Accredited Schools and Colleges of Veterinary Medicine. Transfers will only be accepted into the second year from non-AVMA Accredited Schools and Colleges of Veterinary Medicine. In most cases, completion of a minimum of three semesters of course work is needed for consideration of transfer into the second year. The school does not consider transfers into the first year.

Step 1: Submit a letter of intent requesting transfer via email to svmadmissions@lsu.edu.  Your letter of intent should be emailed BEFORE any other transfer application material is submitted. Be sure to state in your letter into which semester/year you are applying to transfer.  You must also include your legal state of residency as well as your current and permanent contact information - mailing address, city, state, zip, phone number, cell number (if available), and a valid email address.

Step 2: Submit all other application material listed above. It is strongly encouraged that all of the material is postmarked no later than March 1st.  Official transcripts that include all of your coursework leading up to the spring semester from your current CVM must be postmarked by March 1st.  You will also have to send another official copy of your transcripts once your spring semester is completed in mid-May.  All application material should be mailed directly to the LSU Admissions Office at:

ATTN: LSU SVM Admissions Director
Office of Student & Academic Affairs
LSU School of Veterinary Medicine
