For over 20 years, the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine has been proud to showcase the International Exhibition on Animals in Art. This annual art show features 74 pieces in a variety of media celebrating animals and what they bring to our lives.
The exhibition begins with an Opening Reception, which is open to the public, on March 26, 2011, in the SVM Library. The show then runs through April 24 during library hours. It is free and open to the public. Click here for the library calendar.
This year’s judge is Diane Mason, President of the Society of Animal Artists and winner of the 2010 Best of Show. See her winning sculpture in the Avian/Exotics album in the 2010 Gallery.
Two-hundred and twenty artists from 40 states, Canada, and Russia submitted 516 entries for the show. Of those 516 entries, 74 have been accepted for the exhibition. The exhibition is held annually and is open to all artists 18 years of age or older. All media are welcomed and accepted; the work must be original. A $1,000 Best of Show award will be given and one entry will be chosen to appear on the cover of the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Other awards include the Judge’s Award, Honorable Mention, the People’s Choice Award, and the School of Veterinary Medicine Awards.
The show can also be viewed online (see gallery links below for previous years' shows). All pieces from the upcoming show will be priced for sale, and the School retains a 20% commission that benefits special programs.
