The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine’s 24th Annual International Exhibition on Animals in Art begins with an opening reception on March 26 at 6 p.m. in the School’s Library. The exhibition will be on display in the School of Veterinary Medicine Library on Skip Bertman Drive from March 27 through April 24. This event is free and open to the public.
Judge and Juror for this year’s event is Diane Mason, an artist from Berthoud, Colo. She is the president of the Society of Animal Artists and the recipient of the Best of Show award at the 2010 International Exhibition on Animals in Art for her bronze sculpture, “Who’s Looking at Who?” Her work has also been on exhibition at Sculpture in the Park in Loveland, Colo., NatureWorks in Tulsa, Okla., Art of the Animal Kingdom in Bennington, Vt., and the National Sculpture Society’s Annual Awards Exhibition. Two-hundred and twenty artists from 40 states, Canada, and Russia submitted 513 entries for the show. Of those 513 entries, 75 have been accepted for the exhibition. The exhibition is held annually and is open to all artists 18 years of age or older. All media are welcomed and accepted; the work must be original. A $1,000 Best of Show award will be given and one entry will be chosen to appear on the cover of the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Other awards include the Judge’s Award, Honorable Mention, the People’s Choice Award, and the School of Veterinary Medicine Awards.
