Distinguished Alumnus Award

The Distinguished Alumnus Award is a means to recognize alumni of the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine for outstanding professional and personal achievements. The award, which consists of an individual plaque and the placement of the honoree’s name on a group plaque in the School of Veterinary Medicine, will be presented each year.

 

  

Eligibility: Any veterinarian who is in possession of the DVM degree from LSU is eligible for the award.

 

  

Criteria: Candidates will be recognized for their accomplishments in veterinary medicine, service to the SVM, and/or contributions to the community through public service.

 

Contributions to the profession may have been made in any of the following areas:

 

• Practice – clinical, diagnostic, public health, regulatory, military

 

• Teaching

 

• Research

 

• Excellence in involvement in organized veterinary medicine;

 

     o District, state and/or national veterinary associations

 

     o Specialty groups such as the ACVS, AASP, AAHA, etc.

 

Direct service to the SVM or to LSU should receive consideration, but such contributions shall not be mandatory or conclusive in making the selection.

 

Excellence in service to local community;

     • A humane, caring, helping attitude toward family, friends,  clients and community including but not limited to civic club work, church, school boards, town councils, or other government service.

 

 

Selection: The Awards Committee will review nominations and vote on the recipient(s). The Awards Committee reserves the right to not select a recipient each year.
